Big Storms

I remember Storms 1, 2 and 4, especially #2. My friends and I refer to #2 as the snow bowl as we went to a friends house at 11am to watch the eagles games. Just a light snow at 11, but by 4PM we had nearly 2 feet on the ground and still snowing heavy. We had a 10 mile ride home down 295 which was supposed to be closed, like all roads were declared to be in NJ that day. I had a 4x4 pickup and did not have too much of a problem, but there were a few cars driving on 295 that could not get off because the jug handles had not been used and were too deep in snow for them to get out!

Storm #1 my son got chicken pox and the drug store stayed open for me to get there for his prescriptions.

Storm #2 my neighbors had planned a big party for family, but since the snow kept them all home the whole neighbor hood went over (why let all that food go to waste :) ).

The others I also can't recall.

Yes, it was a big snowstorm that came complete with thunder and lightning.

I think I remember walking to midnight Mass in a lot of snow (10" sticks in my mind). Then we went hoping cars :) . 65 or 66 would be about right.

Bob, the chicken pox vaccine must have come along later because every kid on our street had them within about a 2 week period in 93. My parents (both deceased now) told me I never got them as a kid, so I've also considered the shingles vaccine. I got pneumonia from the flu this year so I guess I also need the vaccine for that next year too. Fun getting older, isn't it. My hikes for the last month have been "truck hikes".

Does anyone remember the Ash Wednesday N/easter of 1962? Destroyed much of NJ's boardwalks, including major damage to ACs steel pier and cut through LBI in at least two places. No snow in the shore area but major rain. It stalled off the coast and lasted several high tides. It blew sea life normally found in warmer waters on the beaches, like sea horses. Presumably they were riding the gulf stream.

Yep, saw quite a few house roofs floating in the Atlantic.

That's the one that put the Destroyer on the beach along LBI

Skip the vaccine and start shopping assisted living facilities.
Wow, ....57.
I hope I can still go to the bathroom unassisted at that age .
:)

My brother Tom and I are having our canoes fitted with those big sand wheels disabled people use on the beach, so we can reach the water :)

Well the next "storm of the Century" may have to wait for awhile. We have a serious February thaw coming.... and we deserve it! :)
