I found a half dozen Time Life books from the 1960s at a yard sale several years ago. Each one features a different continent; its history, culture, geography etc. I started in on Brazil about a month ago and was very intrigued by Brazil as a country, and mostly by the planning and construction that went into their capital city; Brasilia. Completed in 1960 after just 41 months of construction, it was very advanced for its age. Even so, and maybe because of that, the Time Life book (copyright 1962) had strong doubts that it would be successful in the future (too impersonal, too sterile, too distant....etc).
Well, the future is now....60 years later, and with the interest in Rio di Janeiro winning the Olympics, I got it up on Wiki to see how she is faring as a city. Quite well it seems. Thought you might like a look on this rainy Saturday. Check out the early architecture, as well as the photo of the Juscelino Kubitschek bridge recently contstructed.
