This is a worthy cause, and will get you outdoors.

Hi everyone, we have a huge tree planting project at the Franklin Parker Preserve in Burlington county. We have 17,000 trees that are at the property and need to be planted as soon as possible! Louis Cantafio, Land Steward at FPP, will be planting from sunrise to sunset every day beginning Saturday April 14 through Saturday, April 21. He could use your help…any amount of hours would be fine.

Please call Louis at 908-642-4789 if you can help.

I think the plan includes turning some of the old bogs back into cedar forests, or at least I recall an old thread about that.

I have seen areas out there that are fenced in in the bogs with young cedar growing in them.Don't know if they were planted but it would seem so,why else would they start way out in the middle of a bog instead of along an edge where seed trees already exist?

Ok I was aware of the cedar plantings. Wasn't sure if they were reforesting another section of uplands, such as the old blueberry fields or somethings else. Knowing those guys that wouldn't seem like something they would do. But more cedar plantings makes sense, I like that.

Cedar swamps that burn over and the trees die to not seem to come back very readily but when the swamps are cut they seem to do much better, sometimes.Would this be because fire destroys the seeds and if the trees are cut down at the wrong time of year there are no seeds available to replace the trees?perhaps the seeds have no fire resistance and no longevity in the ground?
