Canal in EHC

Notice the canal along Landing Creek. Does anyone know anything of its history?

I've noticed it before & assumed it was just a drainage ditch created to help keep the Egg Harbor Yachts property dry.

I asked my Dad about the canal, and he informed me that chemicals were dumped into the creek via the canal. As a kid in the 60's, he and his friends referred to the creek as "shit crick"....
