Took the whole crew out this afternoon on Batsto lake & upriver a bit.
That's me, wife, and all three kids. Can't beat an old Grumman. Five souls and still drafts very little water. It was a full boat though. I was happy to see so many families out together and in so many craft of different shapes & such. Yaks seem to rule but I am an old soul for canoes. Everyone got a good chance at paddling and there was much to see. TURTLES, TURTLES, Everywhere. Many Geese. Saw people with poles in the water, dogs on beaches and a variety of trail riders. Aside from the individuals, it was funny to see a line of Adams people coming in as we were going out in the same livery style canoe.
A twist on the day was as we passed the first turn and beach to see a family about with dogs, kids & such, we went on the the second beach only just around the bend to let the kids switch up to paddle & play a bit. People drove by as usual and I walked over the trail to scope out some erosion on the road. Spied a shine and walked over to pick up a Kodak digital cam. Wow... that sucks losing your Cam on an outing. I ran through the pics and spied the family with the dogs. I lingered longer than preferred in the hopes they would come back. No dice. Found a pic in it's memory with a vehicle and a clear Tag shot so figured I would just run the numbers and contact the folks hopefully to send them their cam.
We continued up into the river and as we came back and were on that final turn to the landing I saw the truck, heard the dogs, saw the people on the beach obviously looking. So we turned about and paddled for heck to get within earshot before they left. It was such a pleasure to give them back that cam full of memories, they were so thankful. They had left the cam on the bumper and the very avoiding of the erosive ditch knocked it loose.
Go figure. Well, anyhoo, it was a nice afternoon and if any Ya'll saw a family of five packed happily into and old Tin Tank cruising along, it was the Largo crew and I hope we said Hi in a pleasant fashion.
Hope you all enjoyed the holiday and remembered what it means to us all as we enjoy the MANY freedoms we have.
