A dramatic skirmish will mark the 231st anniversary of the Affair at Cedar Bridge on Friday, Dec. 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. at old 200 Halfway Rd. in Barnegat Township. The reenactment is sponsored by the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission.
Ocean County Historian Tim Hart said the actual battle took place on Dec. 23, 1782, when Loyalists and Patriots, led by Capt. John Bacon and Capt. Richard Shreve, respectively, faced off in the woods near the tavern, which remains standing and is regarded as the oldest tavern in New Jersey.

From the referenced website: "... which remains standing and is regarded as the oldest tavern in New Jersey.
“This building itself dates back to 1860, but the property itself goes back to the 18th Century,” said Hart. ..." Am I the only one confused by this? I can't believe a tavern built in 1860 is the oldest such building in Jersey? How about the tavern in downtown Mt. Holly across from the oldest fire company? That Mt Holly building looks older than 1860...
