Browns Mills
I was browsing through some old books on Google Books and came across an old Medical Dictionary that has a list of Mineral Springs throughout the U.S. One of those listed is "Cola Springs" in Browns Mills, NJ.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Any info on it?

The book is: The Student's Medical Dictionary by George Milbry Gould
P. Blackiston's Son & Co., 1904

You'll find Cola Springs listed in: Appendix A: Mineral Springs of the United States

You can find the digitized book at the link below - it will take you to the page where Cola Springs is listed:
http://books.google.com/books?id=1Q...cola springs&pg=RA7-PT521#v=onepage&q&f=false

Any info would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks for your help!

Cola is probably a typo. From what I have read there were three springs called Iron, Sulfur and Cold. They may have been originally built as attraction as part of The Forest Springs Hotel which was built in 1889 and burned down in 1895. There is a picture of one on the webaite of the West Jersey History Project in the images section.

It is interesting that one of the springs was called Sulfur. There is an unusual hole in the ground not far from lower mill that smells strongly of sulfur. I have brought some PBX members there. Where was this hotel located, Tom?

When I would go to cub scout meetings near Whitesbog the well water had a very strong sulfur smell. Even when it was made into Kool-Aid you could smell it. I know other people around town have the same problem. The hotel was where the Wawa is in the middle of town. It was 5 stories with 250 rooms and elevators. There were paths that led down to the North Branch of the Rancocas where the springs were located. There are pictures of the hotel and spring in the Arcadia, Images of America book about Browns Mills. I have been told the spring is still by the creek but covered with wood.
