Keeping New Jersey's parks open next year will be a key challenge for the state Department of Environmental Protection, its leader said Thursday.
In a meeting with the editorial board of The Press of Atlantic City, Commissioner Bob Martin said he is trying to find new sources of money to pay for park police, interpreters, campground attendants, lake lifeguards and other staff.
"My biggest worry is funding. We've been able to keep the parks open this year," he said. "That's what keeps me awake the most at night."
