Hi all,

I am planning on taking a group of boy scouts hiking down the Mullica River trail from Ataion to Batsto in a couple of weeks. Some of the boys are pretty young and I was hoping to be able to have someone met us by Quaker Bridge (about 4 miles into the trip) to pick up a few of them. Can any one tell me if a plain SUV can make the trip from Atsion to Quaker Bridge? Thanks.

Chris-

I took the trip from Atsion to Batsto a week ago Tuesday, following the east side of the river. Quaker Bridge Rd seemed to be in very good shape between Atsion and the bridge. It may have been recently graded. It was in bad shape for a while. You should have no problem on that stretch. If you follow the road down to Batsto from there, you'll encounter some sugar sand at the southern end when you near Batsto Lake.
Good luck to you and the scouts on your trip!

John-

Thanks, Its been years since I was through that way, but I thought I remembered that the drive from Atsion to Quaker Bridge was not too bad. We took the kids down the Wading by canoe last year and they loved it. With some of the younger boys, I don't want to make their first trip hiking in the Barrens too rough, so I'm hoping to have a spot where some of them can get picked up if they are tired. This looks ideal.
