WINSLOW TWP. — A South Jersey couple had just left a court hearing here on a drug charge Wednesday when they decided to inject heroin in the municipal parking lot, police said.
And a police Captain who confronted them allegedly found the man and woman had stolen handguns as well.
Police said 24-year-old Debra Bender-Segletes of Mays Landing awaited her boyfriend, Matthew J. Williford, as he finished his court hearing on the drug possession charge.
Williford, 29, of West Atco, reportedly walked with Bender-Segletes across the municipal complex parking lot. They then sat behind the donation bin and began to inject the heroin, police said.
Capt. David Deaner reportedly saw the couple and found they had the drug along with a hypodermic syringe. Both were arrested, and police alleged they also had prescription pills, marijuana and two handguns stolen in a Hamilton Township burglary.
Williford was already listed as a person not to possess weapons. He and Bender-Segletes were each charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of heroin, possession of a hypodermic syringe, possession of prescription pills and possession of marijuana.
Both were committed to Camden County Jail in default of $100,000.
