On Saturday, Guy took me out to see the Cramer-Broome stones, and you've seen his report, but I thought you might like to get a closer look at "Monument Man" in action.

Down in the Martha/Harrisville area, 'twas a wild and stormy day.

which became even wilder.

First, a monument stone.

Of course, the more important property stone was well hidden.

Dig.

Pry.

Discovered! The incised corner property stone. Anoint it with water (note bottle) and carefully blow dirt out of the grooves.

Dig again. We wanted to see whether the stone had something more on its sides, but it didn't.

Unfortunately, while Guy worked, I . . . played.

Off to the next stone.

Maybe here?

AHA!

Ten feet that-a-way.

This one had initials on the sides instead of the top.
See Guy's thread for good close-ups.

But how to find it again? Remember, it's right near this fluted mushroom. :)

This is a lovely bit of land.

Some fine old cedars on one edge.

Curiously adorned.

Well decorated.

Guy explained interesting details

about our next find, a state monument stone
on the SW corner of the property.

We took the scenic route back

and left only footprints.

Goodbye, dark forest. Guard well your secrets.

Nice report and photos glo. You really captured the fall colors wonderfully. I see Guy is sporting a new Jacket. I'll tell ya, hiking through the low lands, cedar, blue berry, maples and brier just seem endless don't they.

Great photo's Gloria! It was enjoyable spending the morning and early afternoon in the pines with you. I was concerned that I might have been making the wrong decision taking you there, but it was soon obvious that I was wrong. You handled it like a pro, unlike the new jacket Jeff mentioned.

When you come again I will have another place in mind that hopefully will be as nice as this location.

I didn't take many photo and these are the only two I liked. The first one shows Gloria near the sawmill close by Washington taking one of her many photo's.

And we visited the stables at Washington.

Nice outing with crisp, sharp, colorful photos.

Guy

Do you have any circa 1970's pics of the Washington Stables ? I'd like to compare the then and now.
