All,

Jessica and I went to search for two Hanover stones today and came up empty, so we searched for and found two township stones after that. I can tell you the ticks were REALLY bad today. We pulled at least 100 off of each of us during a short half mile walk through the woods.

One of our goals was to also find what I will call the Estellow stone that was a property corner to 100 acres owned by Christopher Estellow near Union Clay Works. I found one corner a few months back and wanted to find this. It is about 100 feet off the road so there was good chance that it was there, and it was.

Stone in the bottom right.

Stu (onehand)... I was going to look for the stone you told me about, but as we arrived in the area I realized I never entered the coordinates into my GPS so that ended that adventure. We then decided to end the day, and while heading from the Bear Swamp Hill area near Dukes Bridge we noticed some logging going on.

And I saw my first new FJ40 Land Cruiser today.

Pines; Bamber area
That is an old piney name; Estellow. I have seen it spelled differently.

I had a great day by myself today in the Forked River Mountain area. South of the Mountains I was by golly.

Wow, that's alot of ticks. I assume you did some "bushwacking"? It's gonna be a bad tick season, warm winter, hot spring...leads into brutal blazin' summer. I assume the pines flies were out too. Nothin seems to keep them away.:jd:

We don't have the flies yet, at least I have not run into them. Anyone?

I was hiking around Estell Manor park a couple of days ago and there were a bunch of little flies. Not much of a problem though...

I am ver curious about those stones, they look like anyone just walking by could kick it away but I suspect they are mostly underground ? I love all the pics you post of these stones and have always been wondering how permanent they are as they look small.

I suspect that most of the stones were much larger at one time. The weather, frustrated hunters, and various other things have decreased their size over the years. I have found that if they are going to be near a road, they most likely are not there, and if not they are.

And they are usually held pretty well in the ground, but a few good kicks could loosen them for sure. I don't usually dig around them unless I feel there is some sort of inscription on them, so I am not really certain how deep most of them are. I have found some that have been removed and it does not seem that they are very deep. I may be wrong.

The stone in this post is about 100 feet from a semi well traveled dirt road in the Greenwood Forest off of 72.

Thank you for being curious about them. They are small pieces of history in my mine.
