All,

We headed out this morning (Saturday) to photograph some markers in Lacey township that were just monumented, and stopped in at BobM's house on the way. He joined in and on the way from there to the markers we stopped along the road and found Ipecac (Euphorbia ipecacuanhae). You may recognize the name from your medicine cabinet as the liquid you give someone to throw up. The web says Ipecac Syrup is from Brazil, so I am not certain this plant will do what we might think it should do.

It is flat because I may have ran over it with my car :(

It also comes in green! (Sorry it is slightly blurry)

Then we visited the markers. This was the first one...notice the "0" on it.

We then headed into the woods to check out some plants.

Pine Barren Heather

And the Trumpet Pitcher Plants are about to bloom. As has been mentioned before, these plants are not native to NJ, so someone introduced them to this location.

Arethusa Orchid (sorry for my hand in the photo)

Turkey Beard about to bloom. Notice the tops.

Sand-myrtle (heath family)

From there we headed to Crossley Preserve and explored. In this photo you can still see the old ties from the rail line that was used there.

By noon we were done and heading home for the day.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again Guy. That little canon camera you have takes astonishingly good photos for its size. The photos look so clear and balanced, regardless of the light quality.

Thanks Jeff.

We were out again today for a few hours in the pine plains, and when we came out of the woods we were completely yellow from the pollen on the pine trees.

Bob and I made a return trip to the area we were in last week, along with one other location, and here are a few photo's.

This one shows Bob setting up for a photo.

My attempts at it. I am having slightly more success at closer photo's with my camera.

And the Turkey Beard is now in full bloom.

And the Trumpet Pitcher Plant is in full bloom, and the tubes are growing.

And this shows Bob in a tree in Whiting that is very large. After he came down I made it up, but the laws of gravity were not on my side. I fell from the branch landing on my hip, but fortunately without injury.

We did see two snakes, but failed to capture them for a photo.

Great shots. Sorry I couln't make it out with you guys today. I did do a little fishing west of 206 in the great swamp but I was having a rough time being under the weather and all. All this pollen doesn't help either. Caught 5 pickerel. I did see tons of turkey beard and enormous arrow ariums along the sleeper branch.

They were Northern Water Snakes Jeff. One of them was huge, very thick. He disappeared in the muddy area on the side of the stream. I am very cautious around them as they fight back.

I attended a clean up yesterday at the Crossley Preserve, wow did we pull alot of trash out of that area. We filled up a 40 yard dumpster. We also put in posts to try to keep the ATV's out of there.

Very nice Jim. That is a nice area. The last information station along the pole road was quite informative. That is the one that explains the cement foundations near the "pole road". There are quite a few interesting bottles in that area also. I am surprised that the information stations along the route are still in good shape. That is unusual for the pines.
