Well it is interesting to me anyway. I am from Indian Mills, anyone worth their salt will not say Shamong, haha. Just kidding. I noticed the man who took the pictures has the last name of Bozarth. That'a good old name from the area. Seems like more and more people are getting interested in the history of the pine barrens. Not sure if that is good or bad. Well take a look and if you haven't already I would suggest ready the book called Brotherton. Provides great detail on the history of the Brotherton Reservation, Indian Mills and Shamong. Have fun.

I hope I am not getting on anyone's bad side by posting links to other sites. I would only do this for pine barrens related material. I only do it if I see something I think you guys would be interested in. Maybe we can get these guys to join "our" website.

The author of the book “Brotherton” spoke at the dinner at Sweetwater after the book signing this year. A very distinguished gentleman who was quite interesting. A lifelong dream of writing the book which finally occurred. I just wish he had more time to speak to us.

Thanks for the post.

That's an interesting site Trailhead - thanks for posting. I have to admit that Brotherton is a topic on which I'm completely ignorant. But after looking at the map on that site, it appears that the house I rented in 1996-97 on the lower end of Stokes Road was right on the border of the former reservation.

The author mentioned that the lots for the reservation were 100 acres each, and today a few of those lots are still intact in private hands. I wonder if they have stones?

I enjoyed looking at that site. It is well done. Thanks.

I find it interesting that there was an agreement drafted up to allow the NJ Indians equal shares of the NY reservation. I thought all they would have had to do is shake hands.

I wonder how feasible a hike of the reservation border is.

A lot of my family has either farmed or farms a lot of the land in that area. My uncle says he has one or two stones on his property. I'll probably see him this weekend and I'll ask him about them. My grandfathers property looks almost the same as it did when they divided up the land and sold it.

Ha, you basically picked out my grandfather's farm. It sits right on that corner. My cousin lives across the street.

Ask to see his deed and more specifically his survey of the property. See what it says on the corners. If he lets you, see if the survey gives any clue to the next stone or corner down the line. It may give enough info to know where that is at.

If you see it and want copies for yourself, just do as I do and set your camera to the macro setting and snap away. It works really well. Just make sure you also stand back and take an overall view. That helps you put the smaller photo's into place.
