I'm going out on a big pine barrens trip all over nj tomorrow morning.... hitting up a couple places in burlington and ocean counties. i know the general area for the following places, but maybe some exact directions would be nice too....

- to apple pie hill tower? heard the sight there is great, wanted to check it out, i know it's in/near chatsworth but not sure exactly where.

- been on rt. 563 towards chatsworth trying to find the road that leads to oswego lake.

- crossley preserve?

- abandoned camp named "camp columbus" near bamber lake?

thanks,
brandon

Herping on 4th of july, good luck my friend. Ask bob hamilton for crossley directions, I've been meaning to get out there. I would love to get out with you guys but I've herped on 4th of july before......just make sure you make first tracks.

Brandon, Crossley is off route 530 by the Miller Airpark. Turn off 530 where I have the arrow. The second map is a closeup. Go all the way to the railroad, and park there. The crossley preserve is 20 yards West on the railroad on your right. You'll see the sign.

Regarding Camp Columbus, it does not exist, but was here:

Is it a ritual thing with Herpers to go out on the 4th?

No, not a ritual at all. In past years I've been out in the woods on july 3rd or 4th and it always seems like everyone is out in the woods..... more people less herps.
