This really is "electronics insanity". Garmin is updating firmware on some of their handhelds to disable turn-by-turn routing with openstreetmap. You will now have to purchase the (expensive) Garmin City Navigator map if you want routing. I suppose they would claim it's a liability issue, but it looks like desperation to me. Not only are they worried about losing sales of their devices because of smartphones, they're also worried about losing sales of their maps. Seems like a strategy that could easily backfire...
