Ghost towns and their post offices

Here's a list of dead post offices. Some of these are the ghost towns we know about, including with name changes. Also some South Jersey towns that used to have P.O.'s, but don't anymore, and so on. Some of these are forgotten towns that Father Beck visited and tried to research. The information comes from "A Handbook and Checklist of New Jersey D.P.O's".
DPO's are Discontinued (or dead) post offices.
This information really puts a handle on the history of some of our ghost towns. Ken my recognize some names from North Jersey, and Al my recognize some from Cumberland and Cape May Counties.
See if any of these ring a bell.
An asterisk after the dates means that the PO may still be in use, but in a different category, such as an independant PO becoming a branch.

Probably, because it shows it being in Burlington County. Notice also Wheatland and Pasadena. Also Atsion and Fruitland.
And how about Chetwood? Didn't that have something to do with Calico, or Martha?

Barry,

I wonder if the Shamong mentioned ended when the name was changed to Chatsworth. It says it ended in 1893, and this map shows Chatsworth when it was Shamong in 1885.

Barry,

Thanks, I seem to recognize more from South Jersey than I do of North Jersey. I can only attribute that to Father Beck.

I do recognize some of these North Jersey POs. WalPack is next to the Delaware on the Old Mine Road and Waterloo is about 15 minutes from my home.

Thanks for the info.

Ken,
I figured you might also recognize Oxford Furnace and Pahaquarry. (Pahaquarry Township is somewhere in Warren County near the Water Gap, I think.) Other names I mentioned like Mountainville and New Germantown (now Oldwick) are in Hunterdon County. Mountainville is very small, kind of like Green Bank or Lower Bank.
What did they do at Waterloo? Was there a glassworks, a paper mill, or what? Do you know? I've been there, but it's been well over 20 years.
