Sup everyone,

Not too long ago I purchased a brand new Olympus c-725.. it's been great, and has taken some awesome pictures. It's worked fine ever since I experienced my first problem with it on Dec. 1st, trying to upload my photos.

I came home, poped in the USB and this message comes up- "unable to detect an Olympus digital camera with USB connection"

It's driving me nuts- the camera is perfectly fine, it still takes excellent pictures without any problems, it's just the uploading. I know it's not the batteries, i put fresh ones in and still dosen't upload. Anyone? Help?

What have you done so far to correct the situation? I'd dump the software, run every scan that I could find to check for viruses and spyware etc just for the heck of it, then reload the software. It's a low impact start.

Already removed the software and downloaded it again.. nothing.

I'm not sure what "os" is, but I can tell you a bit about my computer. For one, it's fairly new, I've had it for a little over a year. It's a Gateway, Windows XP, pentium 4. But I don't get why It would just start acting up now?

i too had issues with my olympus camera with windows and xp pro

upon installation of the software that came with the camera and already having photoshop and PH elements previously installed when i plugged the USB into the camera win xp recognized the XD media card not the camera.

it pulled up a window with a list of programs that would open the type of files that were on the XD media card so i selected one and also selected always "open with that program"

then one day i did something stupid, i deleated my windows system files (don't ask)

i did a windows reinstall and some drivers and everything was fine untill i plugged my camera and it would not recognize it but i would hear the "der-dunk" USB dection noise and displayed USB device found and that was it, DUH nothing else

i reinstalled the software that came with the camera, no good

as i remember a few days later i tried it again and it worked, i got the box with which program do want to open theses type of files with....after
that everything was fine, i have no clue, and i build my own comps

i had a similuar issue with USB concerning my garmin 60cs

somethime i just want to pu my fist through the monitor, LOL

I think I would do what Gillian says; get virus software and ad software and even antihijack software and give a clean sweep. Then, try hooking up your camera and go to control panel where it says "scanners and cameras" and ask it to load your camera.

Try Lavasoft (Adaware), "Hijack This", and McAfee. Do you have comcast? McAfee is free from them.

try this, remove the batts from the camers and let it sit for a little while and replace the batts and try again

try another USB connection on your comp, if you have one

if dat don't work, go into windoz control pannel, system, hardware, then under device manager and see if there is a red "x" or yellow "!" under USB devices, if so it will indicate a USB system problem in your comp, right click on that symbol and look for an option to "repair" i think i got it right

when i was working with win 95 and 98 i had to frequently visit the control pannel to find and repair problems, xp is soooo much more stable

other than that i can't think of anything

That really about covers it. Lots of good information in the above posts. The only other thing that I can think of is physical damage. If thats the case, then the easiest thing to do is to try another cable. Cables are not easily damaged but it can happen.

If that doesn't work, there might be damage to the USB interface on the camera itself. If it got bumped or dropped or something of that nature a wire or connection inside may be loose. If you were out in very damp/wet conditions and attempted to hook up the camera as soon as you got home, it may have caused a short in the camera or cable. So, if none of the above, including the cable work, you may have to send the camera to a repair facility.

technically brandon you shouldn't have to use ANY software. you're probably using the olympus "camedia" package, right? every olympus i've owned (that model included) is recognized automatically by the computer and should open as a usb mass storage device or removable drive. then you can copy and paste as you like. try using the camera WITHOUT the software. or connect it and look under "my computer" to see if a new drive opened up.

Now that I think of it... I remember using it while it was raining photographing a Marbled Salamander. But anyways, Thanks for all the help, and hopefully I'll get this thing figured out.

I had the same problem with the game camera I just got (Stealth Cam). The software that came with it couldn't find the pictures. I exited the app and just then Adobe Photo Shop poped up. It effortlessly downloaded the pictures and let me delete them from the camera. It's free!!!

Wildlife photography. I have been scouting out the bogs and am waiting for the end of January when the hunting season winds down. Meanwhile I have been practicing around my home, seeing deer, squirels and birds. I am particulary interested in seeing what feeds at night. If you have any ideas, let me know.

I got an idea Ed. lets buy a live chicken and put it in a cage in the Forked River Mountain area and see what comes in to investigate it.
