We were headed out to walk out by the old AT&T lines and watch the birds yesterday evening, when I turned down a street I had never been down before in Ocean Gate, Louis Ave. It was really undeveloped and we saw a few foot paths and some paths that looked like that had been used by vehicles at some point. Saw the infamous green sign indicting presevered land, so when I got to work I wanted to look at satellite map to see where/how far the foot paths went. Was checking out historical aerials and noticed this strange square area of water appeared sometime between 1956 and 1963. Anyone have an idea of what it might have been? We will likely head out there for a walk this weekend and check out the trails. Has anyone been out here?

That area was to have been developed into lagoon lots. Used a lot by atv's and mtn bikers. Save Barnegat Bay waged a small war to get the land preserved. There is also a nice piece on the bayside with some water impoundments that are great for birding come winter. Going south, look on the left for a sign and gate just past the Waters Edge big curve.

A good portion of the area is part of the Forsythe NWR.

we saw that sign as well 46er when we were out yesterday, I'm looking forward to exploring this area so close to home. I've only been living in Bayville since the hurricane, so I'm enjoying finding places
