All,

Bobpbx and I were out in the woods today, and came upon this gravestone in a very public place. It appears to have been stolen and dumped at the location we found it at. Our mission if you decided to accept is to find it’s rightful place. I will be checking into some of the local cemeteries in the Chatsworth and Batsto area, but if any of you can help out feel free to try. We covered it up somewhat to keep it at it’s current location, but I may move it the next time I am in that area to insure it stays around until I can get it back to it’s proper location.

Does it seem to you the first name has been shortened for some reason?

Guy,
I know that you will get to the bottom of this and return it if it is in fact misplaced but before... you move it, might it be possible that ashes were scattered in the vicinity and the monument was left as such in the hopes that decent folk wouldn't disturb it? Just thinking out loud.

Well, aparently the stone belongs where we found it. I received an email from the womans brother today which is edited slightly below.

Dear Sir; *****carried your e-mail and brought it to my attention-- I am aware of the stone and its location--it memorializes my sister who ran a local canoe business for 20 years and the patrons and local piney's knew her well-- it has been there for over 5 years--It is my understanding that you are trying to return it to a cemetery.. It is not stolen and I thank you for your concern-- it was her and her daughters request to have a service there and place a reminder of her time spent in the barrens..Thank you again and feel free to contact me with any further questions sincerely *****

I am surprised that nobody here including myself has not viewed it before. It is within 5 feet of a popular canoe and kayak parking area.

For those of you from PBX it is located where Bob hid the coffee on our hike. I asked him to not say anything until the issue was resolved, so it is my fault that we stood right there and did not show you.

I had a feeling it was there in some way or another of a memorial.
Great efforts on your part to put it right and all came to a good end!

Guy, I don't think it is where he thinks it is. If you recall, it was laying on top of the leaves haphazardly in amongst the briars. Didn't we have to pull it towards us to read it, cause it was pushed over? If I were you, I would just confirm with the local canoe livery that it is indeed the correct location. If so, I would at least straighten it up a bit and make it seem it belongs there.
