Green bank boxes and goofy gps

Guy,
Here is the topozone link to those boxes:

http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4384660&e=536006&s=25&u=2

Here's a curiosity: my gps shows the coordinates as
N 39.50.20.0
W74.20.35.9

And the map shows it as
N39.36.46
W74.34.50

Also, both Joe and I have a rino, so we can use it as a radio also when we split up while we are hiking. Curiously, when we were on the TNC trail at the same location I noticed that our gps readings differed rather significantly.
Any clue? (maybe answer on electronics?)

Got it figured out...our formats were set differently, that's why our readings were different, and it was different than the topo because it wasn't set to North American Datum, NAD27ConUS.

Renee,

I missed this post and just happened to stumble on it when I noticed the date on the main page. Sorry for the delay and if I fail to respond to anyone's post and you feel that I should have, please write me. I use almost 10 web browsers and confusion is caused by that at times.

So the actual reading is the map reading?

39.36.46
47.34.50

Isn't that right near the Green Bank Church along side lovers lane? I was just there on Saturday.

I am so hurt and upset that you didn't answer my message the minute I posted. :slap:
I'm only kidding!!!! I figured you would get to it when you could!
Yes, the map reading is correct (now my gps is also correct for future waypoints). You are correct, that is exactly where it is. There is a state sign posted on the corner of the lot that I am refering to. Very curious. I'd love to know what all of those boxes are about.

Renee,

I left at 4 and was home by 6 and drove to Lovers Lane to check out the boxes you found there. Jes and I walked to all of them and that is what it took to find out what they are and who owns them. Painted on two of them was this.

And stapled to one of them was this.

While there we saw some flowers in bloom and well we had to photograph them. What are they?
