Hampton Furnace Area Excavation

This morning on our way south on US 206 we saw that the signs and traffic cones were gone that all last week blocked the entrance to Hampton Road. The signs restricted passage to official vehicles only.
So we turned in Hampton Road. Badly rutted and many water holes. At Hampton Furnace the concrete foundation at the edge of the large open field on the west bank of the Batsto had surrounding area to its north mowed and the area between it and Hampton Road had been dug up and re-leveled.
We drove over the Batsto and past the packing house ruins towards Carranza Road, but were stopped about a mile further on by a huge, deep road-spanning water hole. We U-turned and returned to 206.
All last week nothing on TV news or in the Burlco “Times” about what went on at Hampton Furnace and why. Another look for Jimmy Hoffa after the failed search in Michigan?

I can't make any sense of it, the foundation is just exposed a little more.

What we saw triggered my earlier comment about the FBI's failed Hoffa search in Michigan.
Who/what were "they" digging for? And why NOTHING in the papers or TV despite the signs/cones being up for about a week, maybe more.
Interesting.

More important is how can they just dig away when nobody else could do that and get away with it. Was there an archeologist there, an historian, a member of the Pineland Commission, etc?
