after a walk in the back woods today, I started to load a cart of wood for the wood stove. While I was at the wood pile, the dog started going nuts and howling.... It had started snowing and it was hard to see what was in the back field. As I walked over to it I realized it was a hawk. Upon closer inspection, it was dining on a tree-rat. I took the dog into the house, grabbed a camera and shot some photos. Out of respect to Ben (I recall that we have a rule against dead critter pics), I will not include the hawk showing off his dining habits. But.... it really is a beautiful bird and I was amazed that I could get so close (12-15 ft.) Enjoy.
