Hey I'm not too familiar with the plants of the New Jersey Pine Barrens and would like to know about ones growing naturally in a backyard. I have a few pictures. It's in a development that was built in place of an old-growth pine and oak forest near water, with marshes nearby, in Little Egg Harbor Twp in Ocean County. Most of the trees on the lot were leveled about 8 years ago when the homes were built, and several older oak trees remain, as well as many mountain laurels, but no old-growth pine trees were left.

Over a year ago, I finally began clearing out 7 years worth of debris, leaves, dirt, etc. from the section of the yard which was left untouched and never had grass or anything done to it. I found several pine trees that grew under the piles of debris, as well as other plants which I noticed grew in the last 2 years. The pictures posted below are plants that i'm unsure of.

the tree looks like sassafras...to confirm that look for both oval and three lobed leaves.
if you peel off a little bark off a twig it will smell like root beer.

not sure about the others
