I try to hike somewhere every weekend...I don't go to the 'creepy' places alone though.

Welcome!

Smart decision! However, It is always nice to see a female hiking alone, even though that is quite rare.

Where have you hiked?

Hi

Lately I've been going to Manasquan Reservoir. I try to get there as early as I can to check out the birds starting their day. It's so peaceful. I used to go to Lebanon Forrest, but haven't gone in a few years. A friend of mine lives in the woods out in Cassville, and I go there sometimes. I'm not too familiar with the Pine barrens though, but have always been interested. That's why I joined this site. When I said 'creepy' places earlier, I meant that my imagination gets the best of me sometimes. Especially if I'm alone and am not too familiar with the surroundings. Too many Jersey Devil stories when I was a kid, I guess lol. I try to walk whenever I can, even if it's down the street to the store. Nature fascinates me. Just yesterday I looked out my kitchen window and saw about 10 Turkey Vultures feeding on the side of the road. Very cool. Sue

I you go early in the morning on a Sunday almost anywhere in the pines, you are in my opinion quite safe. That is when I enjoy being there. Rarely, do I run into anyone.

Welcome!
Don't focus on creepy. It's a waste of your imagination. Use that imagination to envision the people that shaped this place, the communities that thrived and those that died, the evolution of Flora, Fauna. Use your imagination to put you in a place of the pines where no one has seen it since the wild people of centuries ago. Think back at the very forces of nature that shaped the region. Let it penetrate your senses and become a little wild yourself as your succumb to it. Read the threads here and go places without fears about things you can control with a little common sense. Just be aware of your surroundings and cautious of those who you approach or whom approach you. Dig it?
Drive on.
