The following is a message from Plexus..thought you might like to know
LINDA

Those of you who have come to know Howard and Doris Boyd over the years will be saddened to learn that Doris, Howard's wife of over 70 years, passed away on Tuesday afternoon. She was 94. I spoke with Howard today and while he's trying to keep positive, and says he knows there is much to be thankful for, it's obvious he is grieving deeply.

Doris was a warm and compassionate person with a great love of life and laughter. Jenny and I feel very fortunate to have spent some time with her over the last 10 years, often on outings and bookish events with Howard which were always buoyed by her presence. Their marriage was a remarkable partnership, and up until a few years ago she was keeping up with Howard as few people at any age can hope to. In recent years he has been taking care of her, and his tenderness has been amazing to watch. It's easy to imagine that a huge void must now have opened in his life and heart.

There will be a memorial service (Howard is calling it a "celebration of Doris's life") at 2PM on Saturday the 19th at Bradley and Stow Funeral Home on 541 (Medford-Mt Holly Rd), in Medford just above 70. I don't have any other details yet but if you are thinking of attending you can call the funeral home at 609-953-7600.

If you want to send flowers to the service, I suggest you call Simon Iredale of Medford Florist at 609-654-8338. Jenny, who had a special rapport with Doris, works at Medford Florist part-time and will be doing some arrangements on behalf of Plexus and some of the Boyds' other friends.

If you want to send a note to Howard, you can write to him at 232 Oakshade Rd., Tabernacle, NJ 08088. As you may know, he has trouble earing on the phone, so I don't recommend calling.

I am directing this to you as someone who knows and cares about the Boyds, or who otherwise will want to know about Doris's passing. Please pass the word on to others who should know.

Yours in memory of a very special person,
John

That is sad. Doris came with Howard when I showed him that stand of Southern Pitcher plants. And she came along again when I took Howard on the other side of the Cooks Branch to show him a flower bog. She was very protective of Howard, who was really extending himself that day. He was very excited that I was excited to show him some spots I was crazy about, and she was fearful for him. It was like he wanted to be young again for one day. This was about 14 years ago, when they were both in their late 70's.
