The P3-Orion Hurricane Hunter Aircraft will stop at the Cape May County Airport
in Rio Grande, NJ (near Wildwood) on Tuesday, May 1st as part of its 2007 East Coast
Hurricane Awareness Tour. Approximately 15 crew members will be conducting public
tours of the aircraft from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM to explain its various functions. Traveling
with the tour this year will be Bill Proenza, the newly appointed Director of NOAA’s
Tropical Prediction Center and National Hurricane Center, as well as Dean Gulezian, the
Director of the National Weather Service (NWS) Eastern Region. If you ever wanted to
see the Hurricane Hunter up close, and to meet some of the folks involved in the
hurricane forecasting process, this stop provides the perfect opportunity for such an
encounter!
