I found the landing gear!

With the help of Guy's directions, I found the landing gear at Bear Swamp Hill on Sunday. Thanks Guy!

The lawn chair is still there, right where the road from the tower ends and you turn right to enter the cedars.

Can anyone tell me more about the crash, especiall the date? I'd like to look it up in the newspaper archives, and then I can post it.

The tower was still there when John McPhee was there, and his book was published in 1967. I was there in 1975 and the trees were beginning to grow back. So it was in that time frame that this occurred. I have asked and have never found a firm date. I have read articles mentioning the crash, but never a date. If anyone comes up with it please post.
