Illegal dumping is out of control this year.

I don't think I have seen it this bad in certain areas in a while. I drove around a good amount this weekend and was disgusted by all the trash in the woods this spring. 2 pickup caps each in a different place. Piles of household debris from remodels, tires, and everyones favorite a roofload of shingles. Oh don't forget the hot tub to go take a swim in. I took as much as I could in my small pickup which was a few tires and some regular trash.

To add to this NJ is cracking down on contractors that do not have a DEP A 901 Exempt licence. In 6 more weeks they will be turning them away at the dumps. If they try to use the convenient centers they will be fined $17,000. To get the license a fly-by-night will need insurance ($1200) contractor registration ($90) and DEP ($90-$150) per year. I'm fine with this, but others are scrambling and dumpster companies will be raising rates. You would think they would make it EASIER to take trash to dump (which we pay $70 per ton) ???

Thanks for the info Karl. Looks like we may find quite a bit of trash this year.

Ro and I were out at Whitesbog tonite to see what birds might still be around.
As we left, we used the exit near Rte 70. Doing so, Ro noticed some trash dumped along the canal just before you exit onto 530.
I called Terry to get the phone number for calling in trash dumpers - which she said is 1-877--927-6337 extension 2. I called and left information with a very courteous you lady. Less than 15 minutes later I got a call from an officer on his way to check it out - I'm impressed!
BTW - lotsa peeps, plovers, maybe Yellow Legs, at emptied reservoir on east side just before the big reservoir, but no egrets or herons. And on top of a tree overlooking the big reservoir a Bald Eagle.

They are quick to check on the trash. I reported one location and they were out on a Sunday.

Speaking of egrets or herons, last weekend in the Clayburger/Goodrich Bog I startled two birds. Can you tell which one this is?

I'm about as expert a birder as I am botanist - NOT in either! Ask PBX, who knows me well.
A guess: Egret. They're white, Herons are blue, gray, brown, etc., but rarely white.
There were 27 Great Egrets out at Whitesbog a week ago but not tonite. Migrate south? Head for better local place? Where?
