Imperial moth

After Ben gets settled in with the baby and things smooth out, maybe he'll make us albums just for photos of animals and plants. I am really surprised at how the pines have flourished regarding animal life since 1970. I am seeing more creatures and more variety.

I've been meaning to put a post up asking you guys who have been exploring the pines if you see more wildlife now or back when you guys first started. You always hear alot how animals are getting wipe out, but from what I have been able to see things seem to be recovering more then declining.

Orchid and Snake

The Orchid appears to be Arethusa or Dragon's-Mouth, Arethusa bulbosa. Peterson's says it blooms from May-July and is found in "sphagmum bogs, swamps". Would you agree with this ID? I haven't a clue about the snake--a pine snake maybe? The moth is beautiful. I hope everyone can capture these kind of moments in their journeys. I sure do miss the pines.:(
