All,

We hiked to High Crossing today from Carranza road looking for mile markers for the JCRR. We came up with two of them. Heading from Carranza road toward Atsion, there is one about 200 yards from Carranza road. They are always on the North side of the track. There is another one about 200 feet past High crossing indicating that the distance from Carranza road to High Crossing is about 1 mile.

It is interesting to see that High Crossing is not as high as it once was. They have removed the tracks and as you can see in the below photo they have lowered the rise considerably since years ago. Anyone know when they removed the tracks?

One of the highlight of the day, at least for me, was the capture and subsequent tumble of my daughter after being snared by a bush.

Guy,

I found another marker for you. Remember in that other thread, when I suggested that you look around the area near the switches between Pasadena and 72? From 72, take Pasadena Road toward the terra cotta factory for about 2.7 miles. There's a clearing there on your right (and to the left, there's a very new looking state forest sign) where you can pull in. As you're facing the tracks from there, to your right (towards 72) there's a switch that diverts the tracks into two. If you walk in that direction you'll eventually see another switch that diverts the track farther from the road off into the woods. The set of tracks on the right goes to Chatsworth, Atsion, etc, and the left one bends off toward the quarry there.

But anyway, .5 miles from the place I told you to park, back toward 72, there is a telephone pole near the set of tracks closest to the road. There are no wires (the pole claims that they're underground) but there are a couple gray boxes on it. You can also see this pole from Pasadena Road on the way in, about .2 miles after completing the turns that take you around the quarry. Near the telephone pole is a footing for the markers you're looking for. There's no top, but the base is there. There's a little hill, and it has toppled down and is on its side, but I brushed away some of the dirt to make sure there were two bolts and it's just like your pictures.

There's also another sign post of some kind near there. It's a metal pole, maybe 6 feet long and rusty, and it's got a chunk of concrete on the bottom about 30" x 6" x 6", squared off as if it were cast that way. No sign, just the pole. There's all kinds of stuff around there. There is terra cotta all over (just shards, maybe a half inch thick), foot long rusty bolts, extra sections of track, of course there are rotten ties all over the sides of the tracks, there's some huge piece of steel or iron that I can't identify half-buried in the sand, and I still can't get over the switches.

Does anybody know where the other tracks go?

Chip,

Thanks for that info. I will try to get there this weekend and check into all of the things you mentioned.

I walked the tracks this weekend from below Apple Pie Hill toward Carranza for 40 minutes one way, and did not see any markers. So in that area there must be at least one that is no longer there. Since I have found that they are every mile, if I head toward Chatsworth from Apple Pie I should find one right away.

Again, thanks for reply.

Update: I may not get there this weekend. My daughter will be in Florida, and she has informed me she wants me to wait for her.

Chip,

I followed your instructions and found the switch and the JCRR marker at the telephone pole. I have some photo's from there, and other places at the link below.

Then we went to WaWa and bought lunch and went to the 72 JCRR bridge to eat. There was a burned out car that the police were investigating so I took photo's of that.

Before both of these places we went to Friendship bogs.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. My daughter really enjoyed herself, and that is all that matters to me.

All,

A member of the Ghost Town site has posted a complete photo of a JCRR mile marker that is in his back yard. It is in the Various pictures section. It is the last photo.
