All,

My daughter's and I visited Jenima Mount and Mount today, making it to both places in my car. The road to Jenima Mount was quite tricky, and trying to get to Mount from there was impossible. I had to backtrack to Hampton Gate (Tuckerton) road and access it from the Washington area. I then was able to travel from Mount to Quaker Bridge with no problem. I must say that Quaker Bridge road from Quaker Bridge to 206 was the bumpiest section of the woods I was on today. It is a mess.

Here is a panoramic view of Jenima Mount for anyone who has not been there. It is quite an interesting area, with a decent view of the surrounding woods, including a small valley between the two hills. I would do a "Then and Now" but not much has changed. I certainly am going back to explore more. While at the Camden county library a few weeks back, I found a 1850 book on the geography of NJ and it mentioned that at that time there was a marker there. One of the maps on Ben's site from 1886 no longer showed that it was in place. While there today, I found evidence that possibly a marker of some sort had been there.

Jenima Mount sounds like a great place, Guy. When I first looked at the name of the place, I thought "Jemima", as in Aunt Jemima Pancakes. I can picture a statue of Aunt Jemima standing on a hill, overlooking the valley.

Seriously though, the unpaved roads you took must not have been too bad, if you say Quaker Bridge Road between Quaker Bridge and Route 206 was the worst. I've been on Quaker Bridge Road, between the bridge and 206, and parts of the road are quite bumpy. And there's a short stretch just before the bridge where the sand is thick, and I make sure I have a little, but not too much, momentum when I go through that spot.

In southern New Jersey, hills are unique. I like being on hills. Maybe sometime I'll check it out. I'll have to find exactly where it is first.
