Our Macs format fotos in jpeg and offer export in TIFF, PDF, etc., but not jpg.
Tried to post a jpeg foto on here and it was rejected. Ben said to use jpg, but I couldn't find a translator.
Finally I looked up "jpeg/jpg" on Wikipedia and found out - THEY'RE THE SAME THING!
So I erased the "e" on the foto caption and Presto! it loaded here just fine.
A tip for other users.......

Some operating systems and software are more forgiving. I can think of unix and Linux software that is happy with either .jpeg or .jpg, and it generally works on Macs too (which are actually running unix "under the hood"). But using 3 letter extensions is always safer, which is well known as you have discovered on wikipedia. :)

I'm curious what kind of phone or app you are using that creates .jpeg files. Don't think I have seen this on either iOS or Android, they are usually just .jpg.
