im new to this site but not new to the pine barrens , but i dont have alot of info on ruins and such ive came across , i find myself mainy down hampton rd off of 206 (atsion) to high crossing the most , now right past where i beleive to be is hamptons furnace , where hampton meets high crossing rd , there is the old ruins on the right hand side , i beleive its called washingtons tavern i also herd it called washington stables ? what exactly is this place and whats the history behind it ? i found one article on a random site that said it was a tavern during the war and it burnt down , but then another article said it was even a paper mill at one time , but im not even sure if what i was reading was the correct location , im just really curious since im always there

what are the ruins of then ? and where is washington tavern and stables then ?

That is the ruin of the packing house at Hampton furnance. Washington tavern is further south between batsto and Wading Pines campground. Near Iron pipe road (i think is the name). I am sure someone will give a photo link.

By Washington Tavern do you mean Nicholas Sooy's place at Washington? It's not far along Iron Pipe from the ruins of Wharton's stables there, on the northwest side of the next crossroads. Not much at all left there, though. It's a good bit southeast of where you were.

This is the ruins of the horse stables at Washington, the actual tavern location is located further down the road, it is a cellar hole with a few bricks now.

The only other ruin there that has any walls left of it is the hotel which is close to the tavern site.

There are a few ways to get to Washington, one is to take the Washington turnpike from Batsto, another would be taking Tuckerton Rd from High Crossing. If you need help with directions im sure any of us would be willing to help you.
