Higher education is coming to the Pine Barrens, and it’s geared toward children.
“Lines on the Pines for Kids — Goes to College” will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the event’s new location, Kramer Hall in Hammonton, Atlantic County.
“There are things that kids can do at any age,” organizer Linda Stanton said. “We’re trying to reach children in first through eighth grades.”
The event, presented by the nonprofit group It’s a Sign of the Pines, offers learning experiences with professional authors, artists, crafters and photographers associated with the Pine Barrens. Children will be able to string cranberries and popcorn, create a variety of hats, view a 1974 pumper from the Sweetwater Fire Company, make a bird collage with staff from the Noyes Museum of Art, listen to original Pinelands music, and visit with animals from the Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in Medford. The Pinelands Preservation Alliance, based in Southampton, will offer activities, while writers associated with Plexus Publishing in Medford will meet with fans.
