Late last night in the moonlight

The moon was beautiful last night, and there was a mist in the air so I grabbed my camera around 11:00 PM and walked out into the woods to try and capture something of the mood. It's difficult to shoot only by moonlight, so these needed some help from Photoshop to bring out the details. The full size originals are very noisy since I was shooting ISO 800, wide open, 60 second time exposure. When scaled down to this size (800x600) however it gives them a grainy look which I find kind of interesting.

I think this is my favorite. Look at the top of the frame, you can actually see shafts of moonlight coming through the trees in the mist:

Nice! The lighting looks almost like being on the edge or in a cedar swamp in the daytime.

Thanks. Yes I noticed that too. But you're right, these were in fact shot on the border of a cedar swamp.

I need to do more. I like to do >60s exposures (sometimes on the order of 5-10 minutes)

I was thinking that there was some good photography to be done last night, since we had a full moon.

Yeah, I remember when you posted those shots before Ben - very cool! My Nikon only seems to let me to a 60 sec max exposure. Maybe I need to look at the manual again? I think there's some sort of a wired remote you can use which might give it more timelapse capabilities.

Looks like daylight in a way, but you can tell it's dark. I remember using slow film with my old Minolta SRT102 (still have & still works!) and I would set it up on a tripod overlooking a stream with the shutter open for minutes (did this in the Sierras) and the water is the only thing blurry due to movement, and has the appearance of ice or milky water. Very cool--I'll try to find the slide and get a print made to scan.

Hey furball1 i remember when we had those cameras ,i took a timed exposure of a pool table the rack never moved from the frame but you could see the tracks of the balls going all over the place . i loved that camera but mine finally broke
