I got to wondering this evening what the longest unimproved route through the barrens is? Criteria are that it can't cross pavement, and it has to be a logical route between two places, as opposed to a route that wraps around on itself to add distance.
After noodling around a bit with Google Earth I think this route is a candidate at 17.2 miles:
Sooy Rd from 72 South to Jenkins Rd., thence West to Andrews Rd., thence Southeast 1 mile to an unnamed road, thence West to Shamong Rd, thence South to Oswego Rd, thence East to Allen Rd., thence South to end at Leektown Rd.
We drove Hampton Gate Rd. this past Sat., and it is a nice long run too, but with Caranza paved in the middle there it doesn't have a shot.
