Today, I got a hankering to see water in the pines so, I headed for Weymouth and after that, I stopped by Makepeace Lake. I got out and walked over to the bridge and saw 1942 as the date of construction. Of course, my mind kicked in and since I have no idea how this lake came into being, I figured that it was named Makepeace because it was built during the war. How's my guessing ability working today?

I like that hypothesis, jburd! Makepeace was actually the surname of the cranberry grower who utilized the lake. I don't know much beyond this and would be interested to hear what anyone else here might know about it.

I do that with every old structure that I come across. I was hoping it might even have a story from WW1 but that's okay, it's still just another jewel in the pines.
PLP, have you ever paddled it?
