Has anyone heard what was going on today by Coyle Field? I some how got between two road blocks on Stephenson Road, around noon, and was politely asked to leave when I reached two Airforce SUVs parked across the road. There was a flurry of ground activity and several helicopters were skimming the tree tops. All I was told by one of the security teams was that there was a military operation and that I must leave the area.

Were the helicopters black?

The birds were noisy grey hueys. Several times one had to rise up to avoid hitting the taller pine trees. Freerider is farther south of where this was happening, which was along Rt 72. On the other hand, he could have made it that far north.:D

A public road and you were being asked to leave. Figures.

There is enough room for military operations on the Warren grove bombing range. They should take them there and leave the public land alone. If we were on military land they would be highly pissed off but it is okay for them to inconvenience us on our public land.

I am not quite sure what was going on but it may have been something came off an aircraft or it was a drill simulating such an accident. I don't think a parachute missed the field because I didn't see any planes practicing. There was a an Air Force roll back car carrier parked by RT 72 that I passed going in. The men in the two Suburbans must have given the driver/guard a hard time because he had Stephenson Road completely blocked when I was heading out. Everyone was polite but no information was given to why the road was closed or a reason for me having to leave. I am just curious to what may of happened.

The helicopters looked identical to this one but had Air Force markings.
