Misadventure on a beautiful day

Yesterday (friday) was beautiful so I took my 4 year old out fishing along the mullica. Unfortunetely we came across a guy who totally buried his pick up in a mud hole on that road that goes out to wescoat bogs from 206. His friend was there with an expedition, but couldn't get him out with the tow strap. The pick up was sitting on it's axles and the front hood was underwater, he couldn't start it.

Well, normally I would have got him out quicker, but I had to entertain my son at the same time and keep him at a safe distance. It was a difficult 2 1/2 hours trying to do both jobs. One moment I was hooking up chain and the next I was building sand castles at the edge of the mud hole. Eventually my never fails 3 ton engine hoist and chain got him out and he got his truck started.

The guys were all right. they weren't out wheeling or anything. They were out fishing and just got stuck.

On the bright side, Jack was real good about it all things considered and I caught a 20" pickerel (a real girthy one) on the mullica shortly after. Sorry no pics.

Hewey and I went through there two weeks ago all the way to Wescoat and it wasn't too awful bad.
Maybe the recent rains have made it worse ??
It was really bad in the late eighties and we used to pay hell to get back there.

Going white perching this morning and launching at Chestnut Neck on the lower Mullica.

Thats my plans for the day also but we are going to fish the Toms River.

Scotts truck walked right through all the nasty spots with zero wheel spin.

It can be a real time consuming chore getting a truck unstuck, even more so when they do not have any power. At least you were able to save him and enjoy the beautiful day with Jack.

Perching was slow. Fished from 8 to 3 and kept only two.
The tide was pulling like a freight train because of the moon and maybe that hurt us. The reports have been great but we couldn't find'em today.

We met up to fish but due to the chilly morning we hit the woods instead. We spent the day in Greenwood scouting for turkey, I pulled a 14E permit now I just have to find the birds.

It really wasn't all that bad back there. He just went in full throttle right into the ruts. I suspect some yahoo with a monster truck might have dug it out. There was a go-around but he didn't take it because he was concerned about rubbing some trees.

He was a nice guy but not real experienced with this kind of thing, he might have paniced and spun himself onto his axles, I don't know. We dragged the truck about 3' before his wheels started turning and then it lifted up and out. When he finally got it started about two gallons of water came out of his exhaust pipe.
