Because of altitude and low humidity, the sun seems to be stronger here and the plants love this combination. Low humidity eliminates the mildew and rust that plagues our South Jersey gardens. I noticed hollyhocks without a spot of rust on the foliage, which is very rare in hollyhock borders back home. Due to water restrictions in the arid Southwest, there a few if any lawn irrigation systems here; people do, however, water their plants deeply when needed. I see drip lines in backyard flower beds and public gardens.
