All,

After visiting the sawmill that King mentioned, Jessica and I looked for some county markers in Whitesbog along the bogs and came up empty. One should have been located in the bog and Jessica said she did not have the proper gear to dive under and look for it. She did find another porno magazine which she seems good at finding. She found one at Ten Mile Hollow, the fire memorial in Bass River, and today at the bogs.

So we headed to the Nature Conservatory house to check that out since Boyd mentioned it was gone. The driveway where the large puddle has the stones Boyd mentioned which makes it much easier to get to by foot.

It appears at least some of the visitors recently were not happy about the removal of the house.

The missing house.

The deck....what's left of it.

And this shows the house from the dock area when it was there.

I picture some explorers in 50 years standing there wondering what the ruins of the deck were from.

I liked it better with the cabin there. Such a perfect location for a cabin even if you couldn't go inside. I don't know why the conservancy spent the money to destroy it. Maybe they thought it would attact vandals, squatters or arsens.

I was there on Friday and didn't see that note. I wonder if it was the result of our discussions here?

I never saw the house myself (someone posted a photo of it awhile back... is that still online?). It is a perfect location to watch the sunset though. But I can understand why they tore it down. It would only attract vandals, and I suspect TNC is trying to return the place to a more pristine state, which I personally think is a great idea. There's something really unique about that whole area with the contrast between the red iron sand, the yellow green of the pine plains and the dark green of the taller cedars.

If you go a little further down the road you come to a hill with an ugly sand pit. But on the road up to the pit there are a few spots where you can see a spectacular vista of the whole area.

Thanks for posting those. Wow, it's quite a bit larger than I would have guessed! They did quite a job of hauling that stuff away.
