To what settlement and forge is this referring?

Up a bumpy, twisting dirt road, the first stop for the bus was Apple Pie Hill, where tour participants climbed a 60-foot fire tower to look in vain for the remains of a World War I-era settlement nearby that once included a dozen houses, a hospital and a forge.

I have heard mention of this in the past, but I have never gone looking for it. Maybe we need to plan a get together and take a look.

p.s. I'll see if I can find the site that it was mentioned on for clues

it was an old pressplus article that talked about the chatsworth bus tours that used to take place...i assume the hospital was the sanitarium, but i don't know about the rest.
