For those of you that are interested, there's a nice article (an interview with Bud Wilson) in the latest ASNJ (Archaeological Society of New Jersey) journal. It talks about the 1960's excavations at Martha and has photographs of the site before it was all stripped away.

Maybe Ben can work some magic and get permission to post it.

By the way Ariadne, how are you? What are you up to these days? Do you have any new year resolutions?

I'm well and BUSY, but that's good news in my line of work. My main new year's resolution is to tie up all these loose-end works-in-progress I have going on right now. That, and to quit smoking. How about you?

Quitting smoking is tough. I did it twice, cold turkey is the only way for me. I quit from 25 to 30 years old, then had to quit again at 35. I have been smoke free since 1988. Take a tip from me, don't say in your mind you are quitting forever. Just say you are quitting for a good long time (years) and that if "I" want to, I'll start smoking again when I retire. That somehow helped me quit, knowing there may be a future day when I'll darn well do it if I want. After all, I really loved it most times, but in the end I remember all those days I took my cigarette out of my mouth and looked at it in disgust while tasting that awful taste you sometimes get after a full day of smoking.

My resolution is to eat less candy, doughnuts, and cookies, cut down on the beer late at nite, and get to work earlier by going to bed at a decent time. I am also exercising again.

I quit smoking 31 years ago. My friend Tom and I flew into a remote lake in northern Maine to fish, canoe, and explore. I made the decision on a purely philosphically honest inquiry: If I am so pro-ecology, for clean air and water, pure forest air, nature at its best, why am I polluting my body? How could I be more concerned with the outside, and not my insides? I could not reason or weasel my way out of it--I was a hippocrite when it came to smoking and my insistence of preservation of nature! Two weeks in the forests of Maine and a will of iron cured me of this terrible habit--thank God. Best of luck and give it your best shot.

The fact that you were probably thirty miles from a store may have helped too. :D
