New Commuter Plan to Use Jeeps to Rails to Ease Traffic

A plan to refurbish the JCRR so jeeps can ride the rails was recently revealed by local regional planner R.I. Diculous. Dr. Diculous said that the plan will ease traffic congestion and allow commuters to experience the wilderness on their way to work.

The plan was piloted recently near Woodmansie, as drivers on Route 72 witnessed a steady stream of jeeps pass by overhead along the railroad bridge. A switch master, dressed in railroad garb, was stationed at the switch by the siding that leads to the Claymine Sand Company, directing traffic from the main line to the sand and gravel pits.

It won't be long before people will drive the rails from New York to Atlantic City, on the historic route of the Blue Comet. The state project will be funded from revenues generated by the gambling casinos in Atlantic City, Dr. Diculous said, and added that this will keep people from driving the unpaved roads through the Pine Barrens, which will be closed once the project is completed. This will allow nature to take it's course, without anybody watching the decay and rebirth of the Pine Barrens Forests. It will also keep the hordes of cranberry and blueberry growers as well as firefighters out, Diculous declared.

BELATED APRIL FOOLS!

I've always felt that if they really resurrected that run with several dining cars, it would go over quite well...........bob

They do have maintenance vehicles that run on the rails. It's a simple matter of replacing the axle with one that has no steering and just railroad wheels. I've seen a few pickup trucks like those running around near Monmouth Park in Oceanport. It'd be neat if they had Jeeps like my Cherokee that could run on the rails.

The state owns that right of way now, correct?

Do they? I'm not sure. I always assumed a railroad would never, ever give up a right of way. You may be right though, there are railroad ties up by Whiting thay a private owner would have sold by now........bob

Maybe we could put your Cherokee on the tracks, Ben, and we could all jump in for a ride for our next outing. Who knows, maybe New Jersey could copy Pennsylvania and have state liquor stores, only have RR Drive Inns.
