7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 07, 2018 — Atlantic County Park Nature Center
I’m giving an informal presentation for the Friends of the Park & the Atlantic County Parks’ Speakers Program about western Atlantic County Pine Barrens. It’s a two-part talk. The first half covers the cultural landscape of New Friendship environs near Landisville, spanning 250 years of ethnic occupancy from Swedes to Cossacks. The second half is a preview of the obscure c.1830 Willits survey of the Estell Manor City/Weymouth Township area, showing early roads and toponyms. I’ll introduce little known hamlets, taverns, ancient trails, and—of course—include a few spungs along the way.
