New Google Maps feature - terrain

Not sure when they changed this; I just noticed it today. There's now a new button at the upper right corner of the map labelled "Terrain." Looking a a map of the pines it's pretty subtle since everythig is so flat. But drag the map to the west and you'll see the effect better as you get into Pennsylvania.

There's also another change which some of you may not be happy with. In satellite view it appears that you can no longer turn off the display of overlaid roads on the image. The roads are displayed in all map modes now. I guess you need to use Google Earth if you don't want to see the roads.

Or see http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/showthread.php?p=42032#post42032 These birds eye view 3d maps are awesome. Drawbacks include it's hit and miss loading the 3d maps, it's at least a year old and some places (Eastern Shore of Virginia for example) are not mapped out in 3D.

I just went over to check the new features. There's a drop down, show labels, that you can check or un to get rid of the overlay.

The street views are a nice addition. I'm not thrilled Terrain.
