Hello and Let me introduce myself as a 56 year old boy scout from Beachwood who went to HS with Tom Brown and has read his Tracker book.

It is truly fortunate that we all live in a country that has the freedom to allow such literary license. Although the book is somewhat interesting, for those that detect the inaccuracies and embellishments, realize that this is likely not terribly uncommon with autobiographies. For me and I'm sure Rick, we'd like to know if those wild packs of dogs are still around, especially as I pass Boucher's (not Blanchards) haha?

Anyway I didn't really come to this site (this is my first post) to criticize Tom Brown, but I did want some general info on " illegal" camping which I would have to do in the area behind Double Trouble past Lacey. What is your status as a hiker with backpacking equipment as you're wandering around the Power Line Access Road. FYI, I wouldn't need a car, but I would like to do approx 3 day jaunts.

Lastly, anyone ever hear of Flynn. When I was a kid, every abandoned car (and there were lots of them) were emblazoned with "Flynn". Who was this Flynn?

Hi oleseahorse,

Your goal is interesting, cause I can see myself doing it when I retire in a few years. Tell me more! Why are you doing it? How long have you wanted to do it? What is your background? Is this your only experience with the pines? What have you done during the past 10 years?

I cannot see anyone hassling you, but stay away from that old road that goes from Lacey road through to Double Trouble. It has a fence at the Lacey road end. Sometimes its driven by rangers, but, really infrequently. I'm not saying don't set foot on it, just be careful.

Haven't Retired Yet, but workin on it

Why would I want to wander around in the woods, especially around Lacey? Although I'm not retired, I can occasionally grab 3 day opportunites that I would like to take advantage of to begin backpacking.

I've spent many years starting around 1963 til about 1980 traipsing around the Pine Barrens, so I have a good sense of where I am especially within a 10 to 20 mile radius of FRM.

I haven't been back around there in years, and as an aspiring backpacker, it is a good safe place to start. I just don't want to get hassled by Rangers, asI would just prefer to be left alone, but I'd like some input from knowledgeable types about what I could or should do along with what I can't.

Thanks for your post
