Hi Everyone,
I have been lurking here for a week or so, absolutely loving the forum. I lived in South Jersey from 1966 to 1986, and started exploring the Pines as soon as I could drive in 1967. Many changes took place during those years, mostly due to increased traffic and 4WD becoming the norm.
My husband and I lived in Tabernacle. We spent all of our free time in the woods, and especially liked camping out by the causeway at Hampton Gate. We would just take our sleeping bags and settle in for the night, watching deer as they drank from the river.
We also researched and found as many ruins as possible. Two of the biggest pleasures I find here, are reading a place, or name, that I had totally forgotten. The other is the way you respect the Pines, it's flora, fauna, and heritage. My husband and I were extremely sensitive of our impact. We cleaned up trash on a regular basis until the rangers got to know us. It's very heartening to find a dedicated group who loves the Pine Barrens as much as I did.
I have lived in Vermont for the past 25 years, making rare trips back to Jersey. I hope I can relay some things remembered from my time there long ago. I'm glad to be with you!
