I was looking on Google Maps and Google Earth and noticed what seems like an old track near Atsion Road and Grassy Lake Road. Not sure if it is some sort of old horse track or nothing at all, but you can definitely see it on the satellite images. Not sure if this has been discussed before, but I did a search and could not find anything. Maybe it's nothing, but it looks like something to me. I would provide a link or some coordinates but I don't know how, sorry. Any info on this would be great.

Some tips on using Google Map.

When you find the location you want to show, zoom in or out to the level you want to display. Then click on the link on the top right that says "Link to this page". Then copy the URL (http) at the top of your browser and paste it into the post.

Now if you want to place an arrow at a location, I have found that this is the best way to do it.

Zoom in until you have the exact spot you want the arrow to point at. Then again click on the link at the top right that says "Link to this page". Then go up into the URL and copy the GPS coordinates. For example it will look somewhat like this.

://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&z=17&ll=39.821095,-74.549156&spn=

You copy the coordinates 39.821095,-74.549156

Then paste them into the search field next to the word Google at the top left of the page and hit return. You will get:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=39.821095,-74.549156&ie=UTF8&z=13&om=1&iwloc=A

That's a pretty clever trick, but it isn't working for me. When I do that it takes me to the center of the bookmark I have for Google Maps instead of the desired location that I've selected. Just looking at the URL, it seems that it's using that as a point of reference and including an offset which represents how far I've scrolled the map from it's original position.

But speaking of tracks, this place fascinates me:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=...9.380015,-74.859166&spn=0.004412,0.009849&t=h

I've driven past there many times, and from the road all you can see is a LONG stretch of fenced in land with some private driveways marked by stone posts. Anybody know what this is? Seems like some huge private estate. Zoom way out from there and look at the size of that place, it's larger than some towns....

Close out the page and try it again. I will check into that tomorrow.

Did you get it to work Boyd? I just did it again and it works fine. I think the trick is that you must start new by closing out the window and going to Google Maps from the main Google web page. I don't link to anything to get there, I go through the main page. Not sure if that matters.

OK, now I see what's happening. It seems to think the first location you go to is your "start point," and those coordinates remain in the URL. Then following them is a second set of coordinates which is your most recent location.

So your example below is correct, but the coordinates you chose are actually the second pair of coordinates in the URL. The first pair is your start point, and I was incorrectly copying/pasting those.

But anyway.... it's a cool trick! :)

It's too bad you can;t get in there. It's probably on the same property as those houses.
